Elora was lucky to have so many incredible teachers who encouraged her along the way. Elora’s H.O.P.E. wants to help more future teachers meet their goals, as well.

scholarships-insetThe Elora’s H.O.P.E. Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Special Education who plan to teach. Since 2006, over $21,000 in scholarships has been awarded.

The Scholarship Fund application process is managed by The Pittsburgh Foundation. The following criteria will apply:

  1. Recipient will be a student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Special Education with the intention to use their degree to teach.
  2. Students must be enrolled at Slippery Rock University, University of Pittsburgh, Chatham University, Duquesne University or LaRoche College.
  3. Applicants must be a resident of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington or Westmoreland County.
  4. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
  5. Applicants must submit a 1-2 page essay.

Finalists for the scholarship may be contacted by the committee to interview for the award. Final selection of the scholarship winners will be decided by the Scholarship Advisory Committee (subject to the approval of the Board of Directors of The Pittsburgh Foundation). No member of the Advisory Committee, or his or her immediate family, is eligible for scholarship assistance during his or her tenure on the Advisory Committee.
